The Golden Gate is located in the Temple Mount’s eastern wall. This gate has been used, probably since the 6th century B.C., for the fortifications of the Old City of Jerusalem. The gate is also called, by the Jews, “Door of Mercy”, or “Door of Eternal Life”. Because the gate gives direct access to the Valley of Josaphat and the Mount of Olives from outside of the city. The valley is the promised place where the Last Judgment will take place at the end of time.
